Teva Brender is a third-year internal medicine resident at the University of California, San Francisco. His clinical interests are in pulmonary, critical care, and palliative care. His primary research interests are in moral distress and strategies—including the use of artificial intelligence and large language models— to improve patient-provider communication and delivery of goal-concordant care for seriously ill patients. His other passion is narrative medicine and his writing has appeared in JAMA Internal Medicine, The Journal of General Internal Medicine, and The Wall Street Journal. Outside of the hospital he enjoys cooking, rock climbing, and spending time with his wife and their miniature dachshund, Winston.
