Gabriela Batista, BA
Medical Student, UCSF
Gabriela (Gabi) grew up in Connecticut and earned her BA in Health and Human Biology with a focus on the Social Contexts of Health and Disease. Her senior capstone was on the history of reproductive control, neglect, and coercion of Black, Indigenous, and Latina women in the United States and Puerto Rico. After graduation, her research inspired her to work as a Clinical Research Analyst for the Maternal Morbidity and Mortality Reduction Program at NYC Health + Hospitals, where she worked to analyze how clinical interventions improved birth outcomes for women of color in NYC. Gabi is currently earning both her MD and Master’s of Science through the UC Berkeley – UCSF Joint Medical Program. In addition to being passionate about serving historically marginalized patient populations, she is eager to research how neoliberal health reforms have perpetuated ongoing health disparities in the United States. In her free time, Gabi enjoys reading history and political theory, making ceramics, and going on walks with her dog, Ollie.
